Aust bag gas mask 37

Article about: G'day, all My first post via my phone. !! I'm currently on holidays in south east Queensland Here's one I found in Bundaberg. 37 dated and I'm not familiar with the AN & the VA stamps pe

    Thanks René! It does indeed look like a Mk V, though the strap looks like it has been modified (i.e. the stitching on one end has been undone and the brass hook removed). I suspect the "VA" refers to the bag being a Mk V (I think the "A" denotes the bags use with the long hose respirators of the navy and air force). The "A/|\N" may very well refer to the Australian Navy.

    With all that said, I have to say that the date is the oddest stamping I have ever seen!

    Indeed the whole thing for me is odd ball l'd have to go by early aust manufacturing from Melbourne textiles

    Deffo RAN marked Mk V (no back pocket) as confirmed by a expert Mate of mine. He was surprised to see such an early M.T.X made item!
