Nice packs! I'm not sure of the origin, but the brass hook looks like it was salvaged from an early production (most likely 1938-39) Pattern 1937 shoulder strap. Can you tell me the markings on the brass hook?

If you look closely at the brass hook on the bottom of your first pack, I think you'll see a stamp that reads 'RD NO 639521'.

That patent stamp is usually only seen on early production Pattern 1937 shoulder straps made in 1938-39. Here is a close up on another example...

This is fascinating if that hook was included on your pack at the time of manufacture in 1940! The battle of Dunkirk ended on 4 June 1940 and this pack was made in August 1940. I think this pack is another example of the Axis powers reusing British stocks captured at Dunkirk.

There must have been thousands of those hooks left on the continent after the BEF was pushed back into the English Channel...

The pictures are out of order mate! So the brass hook is on the first pack (i.e. not the 1940 Estonian pack). Regardless, I still think that first pack was made by the Axis using some captured P37 brass fittings.
