Bomber (B-17) radio / navigator headset???

I was given this headset by a guy who said his dad used it In WWII as a navigator in a B-17 this is nothing that I know of that was used by the military? Does anyone know what this was used for military or civilian purposes?

From the small amount I could find on them they appear to be 1920s could they have been used in the AAF?

They do look commercial ( Ham or crystal radio sets ? ) USAAF stuff would
normally have contract numbers on them.........
