British 1942 canister

Article about: by M1910 This is the can in the engine compartment of a Humber Armoured Car. Forget the fact it is drawn a little different to real life. It looks very similar. The photos as promised. Cheer

Wild guess, if oils had different number codes back then as they do today (At least in aviation) then it might have contained a certain type of oil.

    Oil canister seems possible.
    You may be right Martin.

I'm guessing by 1942 this type of "flimsy" can would have been phased out for petrol and water, so i reckon you are right in saying an oil can.

Reminds me of the "bulk oil cans" that we used to get our weapons oil issued in to decant into the smaller personal cleaning kit oil containers.

I have seen one of these before on a different site and if memory serves me correct it had kerosene in it.

You have not supplied any dimensions, but British Armoured Cars and presumably Tanks carried can's of this pattern in holders in their engine compartments for oil. They were manufactured and used up to recent times and may still be use.
