    I haven't seen one of those before.
    Trying to be serious and logical it looks like a waist belt buckle attachment .
    I can't see any other fit or purpose for it other than to add to a belt buckle to extend the length a bit if its too small.
    Interesting.

    It is from the waist belt for the satchel on the long tube respirator.

    I must have seen hundreds of these over the years but I didn't recognise this small but crucial componet

    That's one of the things I like most about a forum like this (other fora are available - just not this good ). You can be wracking your brains over a seemingly impossible puzzle and another member will just say "Oh sure, that' a so and so from a what's its name"
