Was the file issued with the kit a rat-tail or triangular-section?
Triangular section would probably work better on those teeth.

I should clarify rat tail handle, has to be a cultural thing, growing up any file with a spike handle was a rat tail

here is a pic of Russian military version in use it is at Russian water bottles, rucksacks, sleeping bags, travel bags I believe the handles on the UK saw were to be used in a similar fassion
I notice that he's got it flagged as " used by British paratroopers at Arnhem 1944".
The elite forces tag strikes again! Not bad for a piece of kit that was standard vehicle issue kit for TANKS!!
