    The 1903 Springfield was in Length 43.9 in (1,115 mm), and the Barrel length 24 in (610 mm).

    That case seem to be about 36 inches in total length.

    The M1 carbine( full size- non para model ) was in Length 35.6 in (900 mm), and the Barrel length 18 in (460 mm)

    I dont believe this to be commercial use, I think it was made for military use, the leather applied would have been used towards the side of the soldier, to keep from wearing through.

    It has military grade canvas, and the straps are military also.

    Here is a pic of a civilian case that would have been used, you can see the carrying handle type straps, and on the one pictured in the thread, it has straps to secure the case/weapon to the soldiers LBE webbing equipment for jumping out of a airplane.

    Plus if you look at the one he posted pics of, the leather applied is where the charging handle would be, and the end part of the case, is where the front sites, and the bayonet lug would be also, as these would surely after many times of use, would have rubbed through the canvas.

    Ok, here is a crappy pic i just did, and you can see that it does line up, and i apologize for using your original posted pic, the weapon and sights, and charging handle does line up perfectly like i was saying.

    Sorry for the crappy quality, i did it really quick, i could have done better with more time.

    I took in the following lengths;

    Back ground items for measurements;

    mouse pad - average 8 inches wide
    keyboard - average 18 inches long
    small distance between note pad / note pad of paper /
    paper under notepad of paper 3/4 under pad, leaving - 12 inches

    For a total of 38 inches for the weapons case, and the weapon is 36 inches in length total.

    I hope this seems correct to everyone else.

    I have seen pictures of those cases as deployed on WW2 Jeeps to hold an M1 at the ready for easy access while driving.

    So have i, that's why i strongly believe it to be an MI carbine case.
