Pre 1941 the Carlisle Bandage tin did NOT contain sulfa powder ( Sulfanilamide ) but after 1941 they did. I wonder whether the pouches were stamped CS to indicate that the package contained "Crystalline Sulfanilamideā€ without having to open the pouch to check the tin markings?

Crystalline Sulfanilamide...Genius! This seems to fit so well as the Army seemed obsessed with marking tins that contained sulfa powder (wasn't there a color change of the tins?). It makes sense that pouches might be marked as well!
