    Hello fellas,

Two of these folded paper items were contained inside a WW2 era kit bag belonging to a Polish officer, and I haven’t the foggiest as to what they are.

They are made of a medium weight paper that has been machine stitched, have a small light cotton fabric loop, and are stamped with what appear to be date codes, “5/41” and “9/42”. They’re packed away in storage so at the moment I cannot provide exact measurements, but for scale I include a picture of them along with the other items in the lot.

Is anyone able to identify what these are?

    Many thanks in advance,
    Tony

    Hey Tony,

They look like they are G.I. gas brassards. They turn a different color when exposed to mustard gas (or perhaps some other gas).

You're welcome! The only thing that puzzles me is the cyrillic 'B'. Perhaps it was a lend-lease Soviet item that somehow ended up in Polish hands?

I'm quite certain it's just a printing error. Many thanks again for your help.

(btw - I was crushed by the news that your camera had no memory card for the Max Show. I was chomping at the bit to see pictures! Oh, and congrats on your M40 Heer helmet - that was a sharp swap).

    Regards,
    Tony

I am so sorry, man. I saw that I didn't have it and I thought, "oh god the guys on the forum are going to hate me..."

Pictures will turn up. I am sure someone at the WAF will have some.

Thanks for the kind words on my helmet.

They are British made. I have shown one or two of mine on the forum in a thread on anti gas items.

    These can fetch good money.

    Cheers, Ade.

Hi Mick, You bet. But first I’ll need to get some good pics together and then scurry back to home turf in the Polish section of the forum and post them in the appropriate thread there.
