    Thanks guys.
    Asbestos??
    I'm thinking yes. ha ha.
How much glue vs water to tip in the vent?
It's one thing to look at it with your mouth open, but it's better to shoot it gritting your teeth!

Its a Second World War mask you have, so it would be best to seal the filter for safetys sake. The filters on this type of mask are best sealed by pouring the glue and water mix into the two inlet holes on the filter cannister, theres not any need to seal where the filter joins to the hose (this is already covered by a disk valve that will only open when someone breaths through the mask). As for how much glue to use and the ratio of glue to water, this is up to you as the thickness of glue varies. As long as its not really gloopy and not too watery it will be fine. Just take your time and don't over do it.

    Thanks

I was talking to a friend about this recently and they said that they did not think US masks contained asbestos. Could this be true or should it be assumed most pre 80s masks contain them no mater the country of origin?

Thanks for the glue tip, should come in useful. I was thinking about the possibility of sealing in the disposable replacement filter of a modern P3 spec mask inside the face of a civilian mask - there seems to be a huge variety out there to look at. Has anyone ever tried, for re-enactment / display purposes?
Is there any information out there about the coloured bands on the respirator canisters. I just bought a Civilian Duty Respirator, it has a red and blue marking on the black paint. Mask dated 1942.
