ID of this Pack?

I was digging through a pile of US web gear today and came across this pack that I had not seen before. I’ve been poking around the internet all day and have not been able to put an ID on it (I’m probably just looking for the wrong thing) so maybe someone can help me out. The kid says it’s German so I posted it here. If this is incorrect, can someone please move to the correct location?

There are no markings at all, that I can find, other than the name and what looks to be a service number. The sir name “Gouws” is French I believe.

Think I found it!

I could instantly tell that it was definitely not German, but otherwise had no idea whatsoever.

"Gouws", however, is no French name; it sounds Dutch, which made a Dutch/Belgian/South African connection likely. So, taking this clue and Google-ing around a bit with appropriate search terms, I found that this is South African Army equipment. Examples for sale from surplus dealers:

HPL...thank you so much! South African? I would have never made that connection. When I google the name it did show a couple SA listings but I then followed the path of the name origins which took me down the French path and I never turned back. My son seems to think that the button pattern on this pack is only that of Germany but I was not so convinced myself.

It is the kidney pouches and the belt of the SADF Pattern 70 system.

Pattern 70 is correct, for use with the R1 7.62mm Rifle. Later exchanged for the M83 pattern battle jacket for use with the R4 5.56mm. Certainly brings back memories for me seeing this old kit again.
