Lee Enfield curiosa

This item, made by RSAF Enfield, was used to throw lines from ship to ship or over a wall, cliff, ... by mean of a "Ballist" cartridge.
It was inserted in the barrel of a Lee Enfield with a line fastened in the "eye".

The proper term is Ballistite cartridge which was an early type of smokeless powder and was used in blank,grenade throwing and line throwing cartridges....Pete.
