    I have not heard of US navy dog tags being referred to by model designation of M42 and M43. It is my understanding the US Navy used two styles throughout the war. P1917 pattern having one hole, and the P1940 pattern having two holes. I do not know why they used both styles at the same time. This applies to both US Navy, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and US Marines to the best of my knowledge.

    Agree with you John, I can't recall such a designation.
