Thanks guys! I had hoped it was Dutch KNIL. The bottom replacement strap looks identical to late war Japanese navy canteen shoulder strap/buckle. Ideally I'm looking to buy a better condition complete KNIL canteen if anyone knows one for sale? I own two Japanese modified Dutch bayonets, a Japanese modified Klewang sword & a KNIL helmet. Here's my helmet.

    Hi Jarteth,

You have a US made KNIL helmet! Top quality! It was made by MILSCO in Milwaukee in 1941.

It might be marked with 2 in the rear. This means a larger size.

    Nice !

    Cheers,
    Emile

Its true. Because of the occupation of the Netherlands, Milsco was tasked with supplying new helmets to the KNIL.
