Its an M1A1-1-1 Noncombatant gas mask, these can still be found sealed up in their original cardboard boxes quite easily, especially on ebay.

    Thanks

Would $30 be too much to pay for this one?

I'd say thats quite a reasonable price, however there are more complete sets on ebay for around the same price however ifyou like it and are happy with what you're buying, go for it

    Thanks

I believe the full set was the mask, canvas carrier, cardboard issue box and anti dimming stick.

    Thanks

I went ahead an purchased the gas mask! It includes the mask, canvas carrier, and instruction manual. I'm pretty sure this mask has never been worn - the rubber of the mask itself it nice and supple (there are a few tiny cracks in the rubber here and there... especially on the narrower strips of rubber where the elastic straps are stitched on), the elastic straps are in great condition, and the mask itself still has the packing paper inside it so it doesn't lose it's shape.

The canvas carrying bag is in great shape. It's ink stamp says:
    NONCOMBATANT GAS MASK
    M1A2-1-1
    MEDIUM ADULT
    PROPERTY OF THE U.S. GOVERNMENT
    OCD

The inside of the canvas bag is marked:
TI-LOT-412 ... or it could be stamped THOMAS?

The mask itself has a faint ink stamp on the forehead that says:
    Med. Adult

    The side vent is marked:
    Lot 1 - 9 - 42

There is also a faint ink mark behind the vent that says:
TI-48 2 (Hopefully this isn't a date... I was hoping this mask would be WW2 vintage)

The can on the gas mask reads:

    WARNING

THIS GAS MASK IS FOR PROTECTION AGAINST CHEMICAL WARFARE AGENTS ONLY, DISPERSED IN FREE AIR.

    INSTRUCTIONS
The head harness on the facepiece should be adjusted only tight enough to insure a gas-tight fit. To test for leakage, place hand firmly over the inlet in the bottom of canister and inhale. The facepiece will draw inward against face if tight. If leakage occurs around edges of pacepiece, adjust head harness.

TO PREVENT EYEPIECES OF MASK FROM FOGGING
    1. Wipe the inner surface of each eyepiece clean with a soft cloth.
    2. Breathe on the cleaned surface and on a piece of soap to moisten them.
    3. Rub the soap twice across the inside of each eye piece.
    4. Again breathe on eyepieces.
    5. Rub the soap evenly over the whole surface with the tip of the finger.

Handle the mask, especially the eye pieces, with care at all times so that protection will be furnished when needed. Store the mask carefully in a cool, dry place.

PROPERTY OF THE U.S. GOVERNMENT - OCD.

The instruction manual is a little crumpled and has a rip, but is overall in good shape. It's got information on how to properly wear the mask, what to do during attacks of specific gas types, and first aid tips for gas attacks.

PLUS! At the bottom of the bag, this medal was hiding out!
