That's a big net.
Looks to be in great condition for its age.
What would that have been used to cover?

Cheers Phil, it was used under your hoochie (Tent section/shelter)
That's great Rene. I would think not many left in that condition. Post war the sort of thing that would have seen use with campers, and eventually discarded.
Cheers Anderson. I've had this one for decades! because I've done a junk room tidy up! (of sorts) this tub was on top by chance & full of crap I hadn't seen for years!
Rene, what you have there isn't actually a shelter it is the late war lightweight ground sheet which was part of the capes shelter set up (it was the floor) which consisted of a capes/shelter, that ground sheet and a modified mosquito net that was angled at the top. Two sets would be put together to form a tent. I believe they came too late in the war to see service but saw a lot of use in Korea and the 1950's/60's until it was replaced by the hootchie.
Capes shelter in use in Korea. The dig cleaning his rifle is sitting on the groundsheet.
Cheers Luke for clearing that up for me Mate.
