P37 e-tool

Article about: Hi mates.As always before I buy something I post it here in order to have opinions from more experienced collectors.So,I am really interested in buying the following ww2 british e-tool.The p

    Ok, I have done a little bit of research on this. Martin Brayley writes in 'British Web Equipment of the Two World Wars' that the mark two Entrenching tool halve with the bayonet fitting was 'first listed and manufactured in 1944, but did not receive large scale issue before the end of the war.'

    This is supported by looking at photographs of late war soldiers, all the examples I can find have the mk 1 halve without the bayonet fitting.

    Thanks then.I think that the majority that someone can find nowdays has the bayonet fitting since the e-tools ''took'' this modification at the end of the war

    Douglas just found one photo shows a Brit soldier who has the MarkII e-tool.So all for me is OK as this e-tool has been used for at least one soldier before the end of the warP37 e-tool

    Douglas I can imagine that also the other guys carried the markII e-tool too! What do you think?

    Yes, of course its quiet possible that the other soldiers in the picture are carrying mk2 tools as well. Do you know what year was the picture taken?
