Ok, I have done a little bit of research on this. Martin Brayley writes in 'British Web Equipment of the Two World Wars' that the mark two Entrenching tool halve with the bayonet fitting was 'first listed and manufactured in 1944, but did not receive large scale issue before the end of the war.'
This is supported by looking at photographs of late war soldiers, all the examples I can find have the mk 1 halve without the bayonet fitting.
