Default pair of 42 dated leather straps. purpose?

    Hi,

here's some pics of a set of british army leather straps of some sort.

220cm long and 3.5cm wide. The buckles are brass with a catridge brass roller and a steel pin. The belt holes start just over half way at 115cm, spacing 4 cm, last one 23.5 cm before the end.
The 'handle' is 43 cm long and spaces the straps 34cm apart.
makers mark: D. Mason and Sons Ltd, Walsal, 1942
other marks: 'G' with a Broad arrow underneath.
The seller thought they were tack of some sort.

I have another pair made in London with no date and an 'R' above the arrow. These were found around a heavy duty leather suitcase in my parents roof, but the case was thrown out and i didn't notice the markings on the straps till several years later (just after i'd cut it ).

Does anyone know what they really are?
... if they are luggage straps i'm gonna kick myself for dumping the case, but at least my second pair cost next to nothing.

They made alot of leather goods, mainly Horse leather equiptment:
    Walsall leather manufacturers in 1925

They also made luggage though so more research required

'Bags and Dressing Cases': D. Mason & Sons, c.1900. In these goods we see the influence of increased travel and the coming of the light leathergoods trade. This would increasingly occupy D. Mason & Sons. In the last days of the company, when it traded under the Strand Leathergoods name, it was exclusively a maker of light leathergoods.
