I have the pack itself and the L-straps
As I understand it the pack would usually have contained some or all of the 'small equipment' ie : -
- Ration bag
- Jack-knife
- Knife/fork/spoon
- 2 piece mess tin ( often containing 'haversack ration' such as sandwiches etc )
- Mug
- Collapsible stove with fuel tablet
- Tin containing 6 extra fuel tablets
- Biscuits/sweets
- Tin containing 2 bottles of water purifying tablets
Individual soldiers would of course add other items, particularly spare socks.
thanks guys ,this will be very usefull
So where can i find these lovely stuff? Many thanks
I notice that you are in Greece, so it may not be so easy. In the UK, militaria fairs are probably the best source, as is e-bay ( although you have to be careful that you are geting actual war-period items, not from the late 1940s/1950s ). In the past I've always found '37 pattern gear at fairs very cheaply ; maybe other members here can recommend any dealers....?
I get my stuff off eBay, usually quite cheap. Officially you'd also carry the water canteen in there, but few soldiers did that in the field, as the packs would be stuffed with more important things, and the canteen hung off the webbing.
