I have one of these, however it was used later (50s-70s) in Malta. They do have a nice weight to them, and I think mine has a iron/lead tube on the inside. I suspect so because the top seems to have been drilled out and replaced, does yours have anything similar?

It was actually illegal to drill the centre out and insert a lead core at least in the English Constabularys, you could get done for two things, destroying police property and possibly assault by using "excessive force"

I received mine directly from a retired police Sergeant, so it was either standard issue at that point, or 'field modified' by the local police.

Today they of course have, Asps , Kwik cuffs and particulary Gas but in my day we liked to get up close and personal with a nice piece of good quality wood !!

Probleme was I ended up in jail with quiet a dossier!
1: assault and battery
2:Carrying and using prohibited arms
3: theft
All 3 complaints had to do with disraming the law enforcers and using theyre "arm" against them ....

There was a "code" back in those days, when a guy was down , he was down and left in peace, AND a trucheon ...was the worst "weapon"...you could encounter.
