Unknown Compass and case?? French??

Hi guys, found this recently and thought it has a military feel to it.
I bought it with a few bits relating to an observer in the RAF/RFC, but that doesnt help much as there may be no connection between the items at all....
I thought it could be french?? maybe private purchase?
Has anybody seen anything like it as im struggling.
I thought the makers mark on the press stud may help but so far im drawing a blank.

any pointers VERY greatly appreciated

Czechoslovakian Compass? Czech Republic...."CzR" perhaps?

Thanks Glenn, but my apologies, the image isnt very clear.
It says C&R not CzR
and (if the compass and case belong together) the compass points have N.E.S.O which i thought the O would be french "Ouest"??
