    its a mine probe web carrier.

    heres one with the probe (not my collection). Its a 1951 pattern so post WW2.

    Its for a mine probe.They are an aluminium pole with a retractable spike.Postwar I think...

    Don't know if they are still on issue, but they certainly were in the 1980s/90s. We used to be issued them at 1 to a rifle section when I was in the infantry.
