US 1944 Box with strap EMCO

Hello all,
ive done usuall serches and come up with nothing,marked PCTL 4076 emco 1944
linen covered,no divisions,metal hook on front
Ive got lots of guesses maybe someone knows for sure

My guess would be an artillery sight stowage box, though with no idea of the dimensions, it’s a difficult call...

Sounds a good guess with hook to hang on part of gun
dimensions

10" tall. 6" deep 9.5 " wide

Sounding like it would take a dial-sight. Is it marked US?

My assumption is EMCO made us ammo boxes and fittings look US but who knows
