It IS British.

S.G. Brown Ltd. is / was a British company. Could be navy, since the company had a contract with the Admiralty during WWII.
Sold of in the 1960s. They still "exist", although the original company have been sold, bought and merged with other companies a number of times during the post war years.

I am not so certain about the navy part of it, but the are definitely British.
