    Hello all!

Its been a while since I posted anything but I just picked this up and thought many of you would enjoy seeing it! I recently purchased locally a M2-10A1-6 Optical Gas mask. From what I have found these masks were made for snipers, artillery and anyone else who needed to be able to clearly see (while using the gas mask) through their scope or sights. Mine is stamped 1951, so a very early version of this mask. To top it off this mask was NEVER opened. I purchased it from a man who got it at a surplus store that had been run for decades following WWII. The owner passed away and his family sold off the merchandise. The box was still wrapped in the original brown paper that covered the cosmoline that sealed the task mask box. It has the original white rope that kept the mask wrapped tightly around the cardboard insert meant to keep its shape. Ive got pictures taken of the process that it took to open the box. The box is also stamped "Edgewood" so I believe this mask came from the edgewood factory in Maryland. You can read more about the factory here.

    Thanks for looking!

Great score, I like the way you've shown the opening sequence. To be honest I hate doing this unless I had a double, but it can't always be the case hey

I wanted to keep it closed badly! The guy i got it from had pictures from his buddy who had an opened one so I figured it would be the same one. But I did my best to keep the box as nice as possible so it would work with the display.

All good I understand, you did very well on preserving the box

Ive been finding these were made starting in 1952. Anyone have any idea why the mask on mine appears to be marked '51?

Possibly. I assume that would make it an early one.
