If it isn't marked, It's fair game for somebody who doesn't have one. Issued Gear comes out of your pocket if you lose it. So to keep them safely in your possession. You mark them. When you are with a thousand guy's and everybody is wearing the same thing. You have to have that small but very important detail to say HEY THAT'S MINE!!!!!

    Gary,
Is there any service(Where/When) info about PHM2 W.B. Davis?
I looked at the 4th Div. 1st Batt. 24th Marines Corpsman's rooster and he is not listed. I'm trying to see if I can find him with the other Marine Div's/Batt's/Company's but have had no luck. You might give a "Any info" thread on USMF to see if somebody has access to Corpsman's info.
The Doc's have a special place in Jarhead history and I'm sure he is listed some place and it would be awesome to find his service.
I have the diary of one that served on ship that covers the Island hopping Pacific champaign. But with a camo haversack, Your Guy was assigned to a Marine attachment and went ashore. Mine was ship assigned and never went ashore.

I'm still looking, So let me know what you dig up.
