Article about: Hi Guys & Girls I have picked this little box up from a market in Wales yesterday... Any ideas to what it could have been used for?... its approx: 3"x2"x2"

    Hi Dan, I have one the same in my collection. I stronly believe they are WW1 in date, as mine came from my Grandad's house and he was a WW1 Veteran. As far as I have been able to find out is that they are general purpose boxes for small parts, most likely armourers stores related for small pins and springs. But this is just my best guess.

    I have one of these also, came from my old man who picked it up in his REME days. I'm not sure what was kept in them but Ade's idea that it's a general purpose box for small parts would seem about right?
    I can add a little more about mine which may or may not help though...my box as well as the WD markings on the lid is also marked on the base with...

    Part No 39761 (this may be either the part no for the box or possibly what went inside of it?).
    H & L (Presumably the makers).
    1951 (The date).

    It's the usual military bronze green type colour from the '50s.
