Hi Ryan, in the Meat Can pouch goes the mess tin, knife, fork and spoon.
In the pack proper goes the blanket, tent half, poles and pegs: spare clothing/underwear, washing kit. But to carry all of this you would need the Pack Carrier or tail.
The pack is really a lousy design. I don't have the field manual any longer.
Cheers, Ade.
I agree with Ade, it's a terrible thing to have to use. I am speaking from reenacting experience.
They were good for situations like D-Day, where everyone had to go into combat carrying what they would need later, but after that it was pretty much useless.
Hi Ryan, I could teach you how to use it if I had it in hand. But explaning it over the net is not easy. Basically the load is rolled up and the pack done up around it.
Cheers, Ade.
Here's a good link for you Ryan: GI Intelligence Dept.
