    Modest, they may be, but neccessary to complete a collection.

    Often, its the most humble or modest pieces of equipment, that work best.

    The simple cheap thin Nomex flying gloves are very much in demand in the desert even today, as touching boiling hot armour plates on vehicles is not on the top of the list for personnel.

    Likewise the modest mittens could have ment the difference between a succesful shot or a miss or they could mean the difference between the soldier surviving or perishing by keeping the soldiers fingers warm in bad weather.
