Erkennungsmarken ID help needed
Hello Folks.
I was hoping some of you kind chaps in the Erkennungsmarken part of the forum could assist me with the benefit of your knowledge.
I recently purchased this Erkennungsmarken as part of a Panzer related grouping. Sadly I know little about these and was hoping you could advise what unit the owner of the disc belonged to and any other relevant information.
Many thanks in advance
Robin

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings

Basically it is a replacement unit which would supply men to a number of combat units most of which are mentioned on the page , without further docs , soldbuch etc it is not possible to say what units he went to.

Thank you very much Paul, If I could impose a little more, am I right in thinking 1 PZ Ersatz Abt 7 is shorthand for 1st company, Panzer ersatz Battalion 7 panzer regimet....sorry if I am being a little slow on the uptake

Ah sorry Paul, wrote and posted my second question as you were answering it. Thanks again

It's "1st Company, 7th Panzer Replacement Battalion".
[A tank-, anti-tank-, artillery-, cavalry- or signals battalion was referred to as an "Abteilung", which literally means "detachment".]
