    Default Help with id disk

    Hello Everyone,

Although I do not collect German militaria I often pick up the odd piece with other items. Today I bought a small group of badges along with this ID disk at a local fair. Can anyone tell me if it is a genuine ID disk and if so, would it be possible to identify the unit?

I have seen a posting on the Forum which states that the font should be in a Serif face? If so, this would not be a good indicator of its authenticity!

    Kind regards, Malcolm.

    Hello Malcolm,
The first thing I see is wear to the cord holes which is a good sign.
I am not up on units like some here but, from what little I know, this could represent 10 Schule Kompanie, Motorized Jaeger Reg. Grossdeutschland.
Probably making a fool of myself but, someone will be along to tell you so.
    Ralph.

    Hello Ralph.

Thank you very much for the kind reply and helpful information – it is greatly appreciated.

Would this unit be a training school?

    Kind regards, Malcolm.

That would be 10. Schützenkompanie (motorisiert) Infanterieregiment "Großdeutschland" [10th Rifle Company, (motorized), Infantry Regiment "Großdeutschland"].

(In German, the capital letter "J" instead of a capital letter "I" in abbreviations like this was used to avoid confusion with a Roman numeral "I".)

I cannot comment on the tag itself, though.

    HPL2008 and Paul D.

Thank you both for your help in this matter.

As it would appear to have belonged to a soldier in a well known unit, it is probably going to be a fake!

    Kind regards, Malcolm.
