    Hi Sebastien,

I don't really have any doubts the disc is real, given the significant corrosion and the fact that some of the oxides are in the stamped letters- that's usually where fakes go wrong: the oxidation pattern doesn't fit the markings. Plus it's in quite poor shape. I don't think it's field made though- at least not in the usual sense; the letters aren't great, but they do appear to be actual stamps that were just poorly made. Perhaps they were actually made in Russia- if the unit were there in the field when the designation change went into effect, it's possible the officers had stamps made and chose to create new discs for themselves. This one being a low number, belonging to a member of the II. Bataillon staff, it makes sense.
    Ohhhhh- pillage then burn...

Well, as I understand You want that dogtag only because this unit fought near to Your home? If so, You do not need any better reasons:-). But my personal opinion is that Your dogtag is in much better condition and does not come from a wargrave. So I like Your dogtag more:-).

    Thanks for your opinion.
I refused to take this dog tag. The main reason: the dog tag not found near Stalingrad.
