    12. G.R. 528. = 12. (Kompanie) Grenadier-Regiment 528 - 12th Company/ 528th Grenadier Regiment
    Grenadier-Regiment 528

    12./ J.R. 188 = 12. (Kompanie)/ Infanterie-Regiment 188 = 12th Company/ 188th Infantry Regiment

    Both disc look ok.

They look super to me. Known units and pretty good shape. Interesting blood group stamp on Infantry regiment 188 tag.

They look perfectly fine, but isn't anyone at all curious why the second one's unit is Infanterie-Regiment 188a? That's not a blood group mark, and I can't say I've ever seen a field unit with multiple 'versions' where there's an x and an x'a'. Even re-created units, after the first one was destroyed, just got the same designation- not an 'a' or anything. And the Grenadier unit's roll number is strangely high- solders at this time would have Ersatz-Bataillon discs, not field unit ones, and apparently field units only usually issued discs themselves as replacements for ones lost; 60+ is a lot of men to have lost discs in just one single Kompanie. There are some exceptions, but nothing about this unit's history suggests anything mitigating at all. It's odd to be sure...
    Ohhhhh- pillage then burn...

    Matt,

I just thought the "a" was the blood group I cannot think of any other reason for it.

So how does a replacement disk relate to the roll number Matt? If I am roll number 63 and I lose my disk do I change roll number to #2 if that is the second replacement disk issued for the company? Or is there some sort of lookup table in between? I just want to clarify my understanding of the relationship.

    Boski,

I think they are both good as well, I am just trying to understand the markings better.
