Not Landwehr-related in any way at all!

    The abbreviation means:

"Sonderbeauftragter für die Sicherung der landwirtschaftlichen Aufbauarbeit in Weißrussland"

[Special Commissioner for the Security of the Agricultural Build-Up in White Russia]

Well done! Not seen one of these before. What source is this from?

What did these fellows actually do? I am guessing they were not farmers? Do you have any resources you can direct me to that will give details on this unit?

I found some interesting information, seems they hunted partisans in white Russia, what is now Belarus.

Mostly, I just read what it says on the disk.

Some of the abbreviations are wholly common and standard; for others only one possibility makes sense in the specific context of the whole inscription.

(Well, I do have the advantage of being a native speaker of German and very much familiar with abbreviations and adminspeak.)

A bit of quick internet research then confirmed that my interpretation was correct and that this designation really existed.

By the way: It couldn't have been "Landwehr" anyway:
The abbreviation "Landw." (with an upper case "L"), in and of itself, could mean that, but note that the "landw." is not capitalized, so it can't possibly be the abbreviation of a noun.
On the other hand, "landw." is a common abbreviation for landwirtschaftlich (and landwirtschaftliche, -es, -er etc.) and really nothing else.
