It does appear to be miss aligned though, which is not a good sign.

Correct. Someone took the stamp and ground away the "Gren, but didn't get it entirely. At least that theory accounts for the disc marking anyway- it explains it quite well.

This is what we were looking for guys. The first page of a soldbuch showing the printed text of the Hohenstaufen division ERK.
The word ''Hohenstaufen'' was used on ERKs.
So the only issue remaining of this particular tag is the roll number, which is too high.

BRILLIANT! It's not just that 'Hohenstaufen' was on discs, but that it was a Divisional disc specifically marked "Pz. Div. Hohenstaufen" and that they did use a Divisional roll. Since this soldier's number was only 11672 and he seems to have joined rather late in the war, indeed the original disc in question has a far higher number- but that doesn't mean anything bad, it's simply likely to be unissued. If they had Division-level discs, they doubtless made a lot of them, and this would simply be one. I'd buy it if I still actively collected and the price weren't too outrageous...

Well usually these SS tags are outrageously priced.
Especially for a Hohenstaufen division, this could be more than 200 (i would guess).

A good result to an interesting tag and discussion ,the debate goes on on the other forum but as usual the arguing has started !!

Really? The evidence proves conclusively the marking is correct- it can't be said if the discs are real or not of course, but they're not incorrect at least. Were there a logical argument to be made still, I'm all for it, but if it's just people with more opinions than knowledge or reason, I'm glad it's there and not here LOL
