It's funny- someone else just asked about one of these; they're definitely fakes- the lettering is a known bad type; the 'r' and 'g' are very distinctive.

Thanks a lot! I have seen a lot of really rare dog tags up for sale these days. I wounder how they manage to stamp in the letters and still keep the colours and oxidation right. Any knowledge on the technology?

It will be a real (but unstamped) blank disc that is stamped by the faker then buried in the garden for some time to age it up, perhaps with the application of some chemicals as well.

Right, that's the real danger with one so good-looking as this; were it not for having recognized the font, this one would look pretty real. Fakers are improving to be sure- once upon a time their chemical 'age' looked pretty bad and fooled only those with no experience, but this one is very good. That's one reason why it's necessary to look at many details and not just the overall appearance. Just because it looks old doesn't mean it is, unfortunately.

Very much so- fakers are thieves, and worse still they're cowardly thieves whose crimes can go undetected for years and cause great disappointment when they're uncovered; that's as bad as the financial loss. I think we need to return to public floggings in town squares to punish fakers LOL
