Did Germans had a standard cord for ID Disk? Would you share some pictures of the original cords that I can use as a reference?

Over the years I've seen many ID Disk cords made of cotton, leather, different lengths and patterns... were there really a standard cord, as there were many manufacturers... Something that you can look at and tell the difference between the original and post-war

    Thanks,
    Val

The short answer is no, there was no standard; that being said, there was a common type that was just a cotton or other natural fibre cord, twisted like a rope but they varied in detail since it was probably local suppliers who produced it. It apparently didn't last too long, as one sees all kinds of replacements- I even have a disc with three different bits of cord tied together to make one functional Halsschnur. Leather is one material I've not seen as a clearly original cord though. Early in WWI the cords for different German states sometimes used their colours- blue and white for Bavaria, black, white and red for Prussia (IIRC), but no such specialty cords were used during WWII.
    Ohhhhh- pillage then burn...
