Unknown Waffen SS Disc?

Hi guys

I need expert advice. My brother has just been given this metal ID disc? with the details you see in the pictures. It was given to him by his father in law who in turn had found it amongst his late dad's possesions. Provenance is unknown and what it actually is defies me. I don't even know if its the real deal or an old fake. Can anyone help us out here?

Yup, sorry tankfreak, it is definitely a fantasy piece. The most obvious evidence is the 'Waffen-SS' and '1939' combination- in 1939 it was the 'SS-Verfügungstruppe' (and SS-Totenkopfstandarten), and didn't get the name 'Waffen-SS' until 22. April, 1941. Unfortunately coming from two generations previous is misleading- it might seem that because it came from a grandfather that it was acquired during or not too long after the war, but we have to bear in mind that really things could have been bought at any old time during someone's life- gun and militaria shows are full of these kinds of pieces, for example.
