Article about: Hi the photo below is of Yefreitor Vasili Batalov. From his dark shoulder boards, I've been told he's either Artillery or a tank man. Can someone identify his branch of service.

    Due to his dark (blue?) breeches I vote for cavalry

    It would be hard to say about the branch of service. Blue pants can be used by any branch of service, they was worn due of fashion.
    I would also say it can be dark khaki, and the gimnasterka itself is very faded cotton one ( why is so differences in color)
    Must probably artillery, but not a chemical, cavalry etc, due of piping is more light in color than black shoulder boards base

    Thanks everyone for the replies. So Vasily Batalov, the soldiers name, was an Artilleryman most likely. Very interesting.
