Hi Guys, I would like some opinions on this woolen Obr43 Gym.

I was given it to cut up for a medical scenario with our living history group, but even though the gyn is damaged by rodents, I think it is too good for that fate!

All the buttons were missing and it showed from the repairs that many had before replaced more than once.

I think it could be a wartime example?

    Cheers, Ade.

It is a thick wool. It is similar to US woolen blanket material.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Hi Dimas, thanks!

What type of buttons do you recommend to restore it?

    Cheers, Ade.

I recommend the plastic USA made soviet buttons, but if you'll restore it with normally brass it's OK

I now have a set of brass buttons to restore the Gym. I will show some pics of it when it is finished.

I looked for some plastic ones but they were too expensive.

    Cheers, Ade.

I believe I found one of the same, or closely similar as your's Ade. Tell me what you think...

The material is indeed, as you have stated, very similar to the US Army type woolen material that they used to make blankets with. Perhaps this material is another example of Lend-Lease? I can not see any reason why not...

It has brass buttons that I strongly believe are 100% original to the piece.

The pogoni loops are crudely fashioned from the same material and the holes for the laces were simply punched out with a pointed instrument.

Unlike your's Ade, there are no reinforcements where the sleeves are attached to the torso. No shoulder-pads either...
