    Default Russian Watch

Thought I might share this... I was given this watch by the father of my ex girlfriend, sounds boring I know, but here is the best bit.
She is German and her father (now passed away) was in the Waffen SS, he fought the Russians on the Eastern Front, he told me, he was captureby the Russians in 1943, and released in 1956. This watch was given to him by a prison guard. It still keeps good time. I think the watch was made in the 1930's, I believe the translation for the name is Alexandra, which I think, was a Russian watch manufactuer.

My ex still has his Iron cross with Oak Leaves.Russian Watch

The watches is "POBEDA"- Which means not a name but translated as a Victory.
The factory got this name after the Victory over Germany
Take a look here Pobeda (watch) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I suspect grandfather was a big specialist or a very good persone, due the watches in the Soviet union was more than a scarce.
In the wartime period only higher commanders has watches, most probably one from 1000 of enlisted personal has theyr own watches, which they bought in the prewar time.
