Chris...agreed, utterly original, nice pieces, especially the one from premier maker "Deschler" ! as for information...sorry, but I dont collect, out of my scope....but I am sure somebody will be along with some info on these Bavarian veterans associations. Prost ! Steve.
I have a few of those as well; they might be of interest here.
The first is also one of the Deschler-made "Bayerischer Kriegerbund" shield badges as seen in post # 2, but without the attached "streamers". (It looks to me as if the prongs holding the backplate on mine were at some point broken off and the backplate then glued back on.)
The other two are quite nice ones from the Marklkofen Veteran's Association. One of them has a Deschler maker's mark as well:
A few additional observations:
The words "In Treue fest" [roughly translated "In Loyalty Steadfast" or "Firm in Loyalty"] found on several of the badges was the motto of the Bavarian Army.
(Those badges are all heavy in Bavarian symbolism, with our white and blue state colors, shield-bearing lion, heraldic white-and-blue fusils, the Bavarian royal crown etc.)
The present-day successor organization of the "Bayerischer Kriegerbund 1874" is the "Bayerischer Soldatenbund 1874 e.V.". (see Willkommen auf der Startseite )
Thanks Andreas. Nice examples you have there. I really like these badges and they are so cheap, amazing.
So these were given to all members of the veterans association?
