I posted this on the Imperial Russian boards and was told they weren't sure it was Soviet. It was mounted on an old cigarette case along with a Russian Military school award, also shown on the Russian boards. Any info on this badge?

Hi Karen, I'll give you my 1 cent worth. First off, I have never seen this pin before. However, the oak leaves have a very distinct German flavor and the letter "K" on the bottom right side appears to be written as a Latin based letter instead of a Russian or Cyrillic letter. I hope someone else can give you more info.

I am hardly an expert, but I have seen winged wheels on another German badge, a tinnie IIRC, if that's any help. Could it have been something that the Spartikus louts had made to celebrate their 'revolution'? Is that also an A opposite the K?

Yes, there is an "A" opposite the "K". I don't see any makers markings of any kind.

Definitely styled after German badges. The leaves in the outer ring look like the
ones used in the pilot/observer badges.

I took the liberty of posting one of the pictures in another forum to see
if we can get an answer.

Unfortunately, I don't believe that this hat badge is genuine. The detailing is awfully crude(look at the crooked wheel rims) and the back side of it looks almost unfinished. The crossed hammer and wrench are symbols of the Engineers-particularly the Russians, but this badge resembles none that I have ever seen. If it was meant to be Imperial, it would have likely had a Crown above it and if from the Soviet era, the Red Star should be there. I could well be wrong here, but I seriously doubt this is a genuine piece.

Will it help to say it was screwed/mounted into an old cigarette case with Fort Dunlop (Tire) logo on it? Could this have been given to an employee of the tire factory? There was also an Imperial Russia Chughuev Military School badge/medal mounted into the same cigarette case.

    The badge is NOT German.
It is Russian. I posted pictures on another forum and had a couple replies.
One posted a picture of a different badge but showed the same style of
construction--(the use of prongs to hold it together) and the same style of
screwnut. Although no one knew what yours was specifically for, it is definitely
    a Soviet badge.
