A Bavarian M95 pickelhaube

A while ago I bought this Bavarian Pickelhaube M95 Unteroffizier mit Portepee... it's dated 1914 and produced by J. M. Eckart / Ulm am Donau...

Great Spikes

When I first started looking to buy my first Haulb, the Bavarians
realy caught my attention. A Bavarian officers helmet with the
fluted spike IMO is a thing of beauty. BUT so are the prices.
Sence I had a fixed amount I could spend and because I wanted
something to display with my Iron Crosses I chose to go with
the Prussian enlisted. If you are patient enough, you can still find
nice untampered with ones at a reasonable price.

I would love to see more Pickelhauben.

Nice helmet Oradour , but I have some questions with it!!
The cocardes , especialy the national one, and didn't NCO's had a ring of 'nails' at the base of the spike....??

1887 saw the demise of the enlisted mans 'perlring' as a piece of army issue equipment, it could however be privately purchased by SENIOR NCO's, officer aspirants and one year volunteers. So after 1887 not all NCO ranks, particularly junior NCO's would have the perlring fitted, as it was down to personal cost. The kokarden are the so-called NCO kokardes, made up of three pieces, a disc, a silver coloured ring (like an officers, but with one ribbed ring) and a backing plate (usually cardboard !) The silver ring on this Reich kokarde is badly tarnished and i do not want to clean for fear of causing further damage.

I did know for the cocardes! One is never to old to learn! About the perling it is coming back to me. Thanks for the reply.

Stuka f, you can see the kokarde better on Adler's Bavarian helmet, especially the serrated ring (his camera is obviously better than mine!)
