Well done on the haube! In such great condition and as the others have said a steal at $500. Got to be happy with that.

    Cheers

You just may be! I wasn't even looking for one. Just popped up 20 km's from my house. Had to jump on it.

LOL! If I had done that I would be in tears, but it was difficult to maintain my composure when I was walking way with it. Never want to let them see you get too excited. It was unfortunate that it had cracks, but I got over it when I saw the excellent overall condition of the helmet.

Thanks Andy! You are correct. A grand would have been a bargain as well, but that would have been harder to swing than 500. The wife was ticked for a while, but when I showed her the prices of haubes on collectors guild, she reluctantly accepted the fact that I was going to buy it no matter what.

Bringing back an old thread here. I am in the process of making little placards to hold descriptions of each of my helmets. Can anyone provide a year or approximate range of years for this haube? I don't want to label it incorrectly. Much appreciated!

Branches and leaves at the bottom of the front plate reveals it is pre- war (1914)!
Sorry i can't be more precise!
Is there no date to be find in the helmet?

I'd be satisfied with a date range or turn of the century. I have looked for markings but have been very ginger about it. Especially with the loose paper in the top, very brittle. Anywhere in specific I should look? Ill check tonight when I get home.
