Hmmm, definitely says its for throwing grenades. Judging by its shape I would guess it could have been for lobbing four discus grenades in quick succession?
It's labeled as a Grenade-Throwing-Machine...Granatenwurfmaschine...Those aren't signal plates, Greg...those are the discus-grenades...!

Superb post, I really like these bizarre weapons, not the most practical way of throwing a disc shape object though.
