Can anyone please give me some more info on this piece?
The ribbon I could not identify. Is it possibly a regimental commemorative piece?
Thank you for looking.

Tom, it is an unofficial medal to commerate 100 years of the "4. Hannoversches Infanterie-Regt. Nr.164, 1st & 2nd (I,II) Battalions garrisoned at Hameln, the 3rd (III) Battalion being garrisoned at Holzminden, it was part of X (10th) Armee Korps. This particular medal specific to the 1st and 2nd Battalions at Hamlen (the town of "Pied Piper" fame!). Marked "1870" in reference to its battle honours in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. These medals were issued regimentaly (there are a great number of these type of medals to collect), but being unofficial could not be worn with official/state awards. I have examined/seen these types of medals on frack/medal bars as regulations were flaunted especially during the inter war period. Veterans often attached them to their official award bars together with veteran orginisation medals, and they were also attached to a variety of objects, such as watch fobs etc. As for ribbons, generic national colours black/white/red or regimental colours, were often used. This particular medal is marked with one of Germanys premier medal makers "DESCHLER UND SOHN" from Munich, Bavaria, founded in 1825 it was finally bought by the "Pichl K.G." company and production transfered to Austria in 1997 ! Hope that helps,
Prost ! Steve.

Thank you Steve. The info you provided is fantastic. These types of awards seem to be endless, what have I let myself in for? Anywhere where I can find out info of which regt this is?
