    Here is a new arrival.

Unknown maker, The pin and catch have been removed
and the corners have been drilled.

Best case is that the pin or catch was broken and the owner
removed them and drilled the corners so that it could be sewn
directly to the uniform.----------------OR it was done in the
60s and sewn to a biker jacket. No way to know for sure.

Either way it's an interesting variation and it's a maker that I
don't already have. (who ever the maker is )

The hinge area looks like it had glue on it once and both it and the catch seem quite bright for a wartime act. Many of the oldtimer collectors also removed the pins and hardware, to make them easier to mount on a display board...Ah! The Simpler and Stupider days...

It was cut off as you can see the hacksaw or file marks and then glue.

I had considered that as well and I think you
are probably right. The lack of patina on whats
left of the pin and catch would indicate that this
was done later in it's life. I would guess within
    the last 30-40 years..

A piece most people will ask you about....and thus it has a new life! That is the neatest looking 4 I recall seeing. Are many of them open-sided like that?

As far as I know, that font is unique to this style cross.

I prefer the biker version :-)

Even though it is a shame it has been removed !
A rare maker ?? Strange looking the open 4, but nice .

    Marc,
I don't know about "Rare" but definitely uncommon. I have
only seen 3 or 4 others posted.
