I was wondering which marks for 1914 EK's were post war vs during the war. And also does anyone know about the LV or LV65 marks? Thanks!

Another question that may not have a good answer.
First off, I would say that most of the makers marks
that we think we know are just assumptions. We really
do not know for sure who many of these makers were.
Next, I don't think I have ever seen anything regarding
war time vs. post war makers marks. Most crosses that
are silver stamped are considered to be private purchase
and not awarded. The same holds true for vaulted and
screwback 1st class crosses. Awarded Ek1s were flat pin
backs.
LV crosses.
As far as I know, we still don't know who or what LV was.
I have seen crosses marked LV, LV8, LV10, LV17, LV26,
LV34, LV52, LV65 and LV75.

Ah ok, well the one I just bought was an EKII with an LV65 mark and I don't think it had any silver marks. I'll post pics when I receive it.
re-maker marks.
Many of us get hung up on maker marks and/or trying
to assign a maker to a cross. Me included. I like finding
maker marked crosses and silver marked crosses. It adds
another level of interest in collecting them and as I am all too
well aware, some makers crosses can bring a premium price
compared to others. --- I love the variation found in all the
ww1 crosses when compared to that TR stuff.
All that being said, I appreciate a cross for the history it
represents and for it's condition and quality of construction.
I have many unmarked crosses that I may never fix a maker to
and it does not bother me at all. I am sure that the young man
who just was awarded his minty new Ek2 did not care who made
it either.
Just some ramblings from an old fart that has had a long week
and not enough sleep.

Haha I know right? I'm just new to collecting EK's ( I'm usually a helmet guy ) and trying to learn a few things haha the more you know the better! One thing I wish I could do is find out if my great grandfather had an EK! A family member has a pic of him in his Wehrmacht uniform but I haven't seen it in a while can't remember if there was a medal. Too bad there is no database with all the ones awarded it.
It never hurts to ask questions, that's how we learn.
I still have a couple guys that I lean on for help that
have been doing this a lot longer than I have.
That would be one big ass datebase. In ww1 alone
there were 3,803,384 second class crosses awarded.

Haha yea but I'm sure many would benefit from it. But I doubt anyone has the time to do it! I wonder sometimes if I had any German family in the trenches? Shoot I have slaves and Nazis in my ancestry might as well had a few in the trenches!
My family has cowboys and horse thieves.
