    Default EK2 ribbon question

    Hello All,

I have been asked to discuss this ribbon as to whether it is a period ribbon or a modern replacement. It is a narrow version of the EK2 ribbon at 25mm wide.

It does not glow under black light, passes the burn test and 'feels' right.
However, I am useless with ribbons so it's up to you guys!

    Thanks for any help offered.

    Regards - Danny

    How does it smell?

    No smell.
I feel it was cut from a roll, as to what period the roll comes from is the question.

I have several of these thinner ribbons Danny. They came on Imperial EKs I bought from Detlev.

My personal opinion and thoughts, not based on any hard evidence, is that they're TR period manufactured and used on replacement medals, Spangen, parade mounts etc from that time.

So, not modern fake ribbons but not of the Imperial period either. Original Third Reich made replacements perhaps!

    Thank you Adrian.
That's good enough for me. (This one came on a cross from Philipp Militaria.)

I think the dealers have got rolls of this ribbon from somewhere and they use it to put on EKs missing the ribbon.

If you compare to a TR made ribbon, they feel much the same as opposed to the slightly silkier feel of one made in the Imperial era.

I have just noticed something else that seems to throw a cat among the pigeons!

I had forgotten I had this... IMO, unquestionably a WW1 period patriotic piece.

With, a ribbon of exactly the same size as the 25mm one. I believe it to have the same texture, edges and weave (the white areas look slightly looser, but I would put this down to wear).

    What are your thoughts?

    EDIT:
I have just counted the stitches in the white bands of both ribbons.... 19 stitches in both!

You might well be correct Danny! Good observation!

Either way, I'm happy that the similar ribbons I have are not modern made. I believe they were made prior to May 1945 and possibly earlier.
